The Backpack Program

The Backpack Program provides food for the weekend to needy children in the Sidney School District.  Food is delivered to the school every Friday, packed in tote bags that kids can easily carry home with them.  Those bags are filled every week by volunteers under the direction of the program coordinator.  Volunteers also drive to Oneonta once a month to pick up food supplied by the Regional Food Bank of Northern NY.  The Backpack Program is supported by contributions by church members and friends.  Currently we are providing filled backpacks for 25 students every week.  With increased funding we would be able to do more, and counselors at the school have told us that there are many more students who experience food insecurity on weekends, when school breakfasts and lunches are not available.   You may donate to support this program by clicking on the "Give" button at the lower left of the home page and choosing "Backpack Program" or by bringing or mailing your contribution to church.  If you are interested in volunteering to help with this program, please contact Sarah at hoofandpaw@gmail.com

The Parish Nurse Program

St. Luke's is blessed to have a group of nurses, nursing students, and other individuals with a keen interest in health and wellness.  They work together to provide education on these matters to the congregation, offer free and confidential blood pressure screening the third Sunday of every month, and are ready to provide assistance as needed to those who have questions about medical care, or who may need some help during recuperation from illness, injury, or illness.
