The Rev. Dr. Ken Simurro, Jr. was born in Brooklyn, NY. After graduation from Berkeley Institute and Polytechnic Preparatory Country Day School, he attended New York University as a pre-med student but was called to the Lutheran ministry during his college years.
Pastor Ken received the Master of Divinity degree from the Lutheran Theological Seminary at Philadelphia in 1983 and served calls in Windsor, Ontario, and Newark, NJ. In 1993 he made a mid-career move and began serving as a teacher of chemistry, biology and earth science, while continuing his ministry to Lutheran Congregations in Queens and Brooklyn on a part-time basis and studying for his doctorate. He was awarded the Doctor of Ministry Degree from the Lutheran Theological Seminary at Philadelphia in 2008 and retired from teaching in 2014.
Pastor Ken is married to Marilyn Simurro, a recently retired speech language pathologist. In 2016 the Simurros moved up to Delaware County, where they enjoy the country lifestyle. While serving a congregation in Richmondville as interim pastor, he was elected dean of the Foothills Conference, a position that he holds to this day.
Having completed his call to Richmondville at the end of 2020, Pastor Ken has eagerly accepted a one-year call for interim ministry at St. Luke's commencing January 2021.
